Delmarva's back roads and byways are perfect for cyclists. Beginners will especially like the easy - relatively flat - terrain of Wicomico County. Cycling enthusiasts mark their calendars for the Seagull Century in Salisbury each October. Explore the following collection of biking trails or blaze your own path! All trails are urban/rural combination trails on established roadways. Please remember to head traffic and safety laws including wearing a helmet! Cycling is a great way to learn all of the elements of Wicomico County. The sights, smells, and terrain are experienced by the whole body. Wicomico County has a lot to offer experienced and beginner bicyclists. Spring and Fall are ideal times to tour our towns by bicycle because the temperatures are cooler and the air is less humid. To really enjoy cycling, it’s important to be prepared. Always take plenty of water and food when you head out on your bike. Country roads have limited places to purchase food many of which are closed on Sundays or holidays. Always bring an energy bar or food sports gel in your pack — it can save the day. Golf is a wonderful way to get into the swing of the great outdoors. Enjoy the lush fairways, gently sloping hills and beautiful waterways of our area’s many golf courses. The lower Eastern shore offers over 24 unique courses for all styles and levels of play. With this many diverse options available, the Eastern Shore serves as an excellent getaway for golf enthusiasts. From Par 3 Executive Courses to 18-hole, you are sure to find a course that is both fun and challenging. Several of our facilities are built to USGA specifications and have hosted PGA Section Tournaments. So bring your clubs to enjoy our beautiful landscape and dramatic courses. Agro-Tourism
Agriculture has played a strong role in the development of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, and it continues to be of importance today. Wicomico County is rich with farmland, in fact 78% of its land is zoned for agriculture. With the increasing popularity of agro-tourism over the last few years, many visitors are interested in learning about the cycle of food production and gaining a firsthand glimpse of the behind the scenes workings of a farm. Several of our area farms have opened their doors to visitors offering opportunities to pick their own fruits and vegetables, purchase locally grown produce, or even have fun with agriculture through outdoor corn mazes. Wicomico County is home to the organic Green Branch Farm as well as many other local farms which encourage such opportunities. |
